Disability Challenge? Hmmm. The challenged challenge! <g> Ahem. Anyways, I had an immediate idea, and ran with the "What if Jean lost an arm?" concept. It's short, but fun, I think. And, IMO, kinda different. Thanks go to Brucha Meyers for the title, and a spot of beta reading.

It's still there.
No, it isn't.
Yes, I'm telling you it IS!
No, it's still gone.
It... it can't be. I can feel it.
Can you? Can we? Or are we just feeling everyone else's arm?
How could it be gone?
We're partly in denial. And with our telepathic powers, we feel everyone else's arms, and our nerve endings make it real. It's phantom limb syndrome on a whole new level.
But HOW?
An accident. A simple accident. Not a mutant attack, or anything so spectacular. We were just minding our own buisness when someone pushed us out of their way. We fell into the street, as a car passed. We were lucky it was just our arm that fell beneath the wheels.
Why are we still here?
Doctors, of course. They were just in time to save us. Sealed the wound, and gave us a transfusion. Yeah, we were very lucky.
She finally opened her eyes, and asked aloud, "Now, how will I survive?"
Her husband looked over from the seat he had been practically living in for the last few days, waiting for her to wake up. "The same way we always have, Jean. Day to day, fighting the good fight against prejudice."
"But, Scott... now, I'm even more of an outcast."
"Not to me, you're not. I'm here for you. I understand."
Jean looked down where her right arm should be. She 'flexed' her fingers.
Do you?
