Sketches of Life

by Redhawk

The girl sketched quickly, the pencil scratching across the pad. The girl frowned intently, closing her eyes to better concentrate on the images in her head, to copy them to the paper.

Inside the ramshackle beach-side hut, the lavender cat stretched luxuriously. Circling, she tucked her nose under her tail, listening to the noises outside, the faint sounds of steady breathing and the scratch of the pencil upon the paper. Sighing, the cat stood up and silently padded her way outside. Trading four feet for two, she quietly stood behind the sketching girl.

"Furfriend Marie is drawing again? Does she see what comes again?"

Wordlessly, the girl scribbled a thick jagged line over the futuristic cityscape she had sketched.

"We need to go, Sharon," said Marie-Ange listlessly.

Nodding once, Catseye gathered their meager possessions. As she worked, Catseye kept up a stream of patter. "Maybe in this newplace we will find another stinkyfriend Jetstream, or a sneakybadboy Manuel?"

Marie-Ange tore the defaced cityscape from the notebook and let it drift on the azure sea. "Non. It will not matter. The world is mad."

Sharon mewed loudly in negation. "Keep heart, friend of my heart. We will find safety."
