Tin Soldier

tin soldiers don't cry
even in pulling
deep splinters
from tender flesh
weep not.
best to remove them
with an unshaking hand
thus
wear the mask of the soldier
even
in the doing,
spills blood,
red tears
from gaping open wounds.
never healing
but scaring numb,unfeeling flesh
over the wounds,
a stoic face with leaden eyes
a mask of survival.
